Haiti - FLASH : A suspected case of monkeypox discovered in the Artibonite 01/06/2022 09:46:01
Dr Samson Marseille Director of the Department of Epidemiology, Laboratories and Research specifies for the moment that this is a suspected case "For the moment, we cannot advance a date for the results , the samples were sent to the United States because the National Laboratory is not able to carry out this analysis, stressing that it is possible that this is not the first suspected case in Haiti specifying "It is about a disease with a low mortality rate but which is highly contagious..." For his part, Dr. Lauré Adrien revealed that no special health protocol will be implemented given the nature of the disease, recalling that there is no specific treatment or vaccine available against monkeypox. Healing is spontaneous in 2 to 3 weeks. In the past two weeks, cases of so-called monkeypox have been reported to the World Health Organization (WHO) nearly 400 cases in several non-endemic countries but WHO rules out the risk of a pandemic. What you need to know about monkeypox : "The so-called monkeypox (simian orthopoxvirus) is a virus transmitted to humans by animals that is mainly observed in isolated areas of central and western Africa. The first human case was detected in 1970, in the Democratic Republic of Congo in a child Monkeypox virus clinically resembles smallpox, but monkeypox is milder and scarring is less severe. Monkey pox symptoms : In the first 5 days, the infection causes several symptoms: - fever - headache - swollen lymph nodes - back pain - exhaustion Within 1-3 days (sometimes longer) of the onset of fever, the patient develops symptoms of a rash that often begins on the face and then spreads to other parts of the body, including the palms of the hands, the soles of the feet and the mucous membranes (mouth and genital area). Skin involvement occurs in a single push. Itching is common. The lesions pass through different successive stages that may suggest chicken pox First vesicles (pimples with liquid inside) then pustules and finally scabs. When the scabs fall off, people are no longer contagious. The incubation of the disease can range from 5 to 21 days. The fever phase lasts about 1 to 3 days. The disease, generally benign, most often heals spontaneously, after 2 to 3 weeks. Precautions : In the event of the appearance of symptoms (fever and rash with blisters), it is recommended to isolate oneself while awaiting medical advice and to avoid contact with other people. Transmission of monkeypox between humans : Transmission in humans occurs primarily through respiratory droplet particles. Other modes of transmission include direct skin contact with body fluids or the lesion, and indirect contact with the lesion, such as through contaminated clothing, linens, or dishes.
