Haiti - Humanitarian : «Irene» force the hospital ship «USNS Comfort» to suspend its mission

The Continuing Promise 2011 (CP11) mission team, of the hospital ship "USNS Comfort" has suspended its operations in Port-au-Prince Sunday, August 21, 2011 in anticipation of severe weather heading toward the area.

Irene is expected to hit Haiti by Tuesday. Comfort and its crew have been directed by Commander, United States Naval Forces Southern Command to depart the area and seek safe haven until the tropical storm has passed. Comfort will remain in the area while damage assessments are being conducted.

Since its arrival to Port-au-Prince Aug. 18, the Comfort has treated approximately 1,450 patients and performed 15 surgeries.
