Haiti - Trade : Agreements for the harmonization of standards and quality systems between Haiti and the Dom. Rep.

With the aim of facilitating the exchange of products and eliminating the technical barriers of binational trade between the Dominican Republic and Haiti, Lorenzo Ramírez, the Director of the Dominican Institute for Quality (Indocal) and his counterpart Monorde Civil Director of the Office Haïtien des Normes (BHN), held a working session during which they approved the agreements for the harmonization of standards and quality systems between the two nations in the presence of Jean-Marc Dioulo Director of the Haiti-DR binational program of Caribbean Export and Leonel Naut. This meeting is part of the Haiti-Dominican Republic Binational Cooperation Program, promoted by the Caribbean Export Development Agency, Caribbean Export, with funding from the European Union Development Fund, with the aim of improve the quality of the products of both countries and provide greater competitiveness for businesses.

During this working session, the two institutions agreed to draw up an action plan and establish the work schedule for the period 2022-2023, which will focus on achieving the harmonization of standards for five products of the three selected value chains: Cocoa, essential oils, cosmetics and crafts, including the requirements relating to their labeling and technical exchanges for the field of metrology between the two nations.

As part of the joint activities, it was also agreed to organize face-to-face technical exchange training on the calibration of balances and volumetric standards, which will facilitate the reciprocity of information between BHN and INDOCAL, and the private sector. of Haiti and the Dominican Republic.
