Haiti - Economy : Annual inflation 24%

The General Consumer Price Index (CPI, 100 in 2017-2018) https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-34906-haiti-economy-acceleration-of-the-rise-in-prices-for-2-months.html went from 199.5 in December 2021 https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-36066-haiti-economy-annual-inflation-247.html to 200.8 in January 2022. It the result is a monthly variation of +0.6% against +1% in December and 24% year-on-year against 24.6% the previous month…

The monthly increase observed in January 2022 is mainly the result of the behavior of the following consumption indices:

"Food products and non-alcoholic beverages": +0.8% over one month and 25.5% over one year;

"Clothing and footwear": +0.3% over one month and 24.7% over one year;

"Housing, water, gas, electricity and other fuels": +0.5% over one month and 26.0% over one year

"Health": +0.8% over one month and 25.5% over one year.

"Transport": +0.3% over 1 month and 22.8% over one year

Products with more pronounced annual inflation:

Power:

Rice (on average 37.3%), meat (24.6%), milk (24.6%), edible oil (54.3%), lemon (32.0%), banana (30.9%), peas (24.3%) and sugar (26.7%).

Clothing and footwear:

Dress (on average 32.8%), shirt (26.2%), men's pants (26.0%), shoes, sneakers (30.9%) and sandals (26.1%).

"Housing, water, gas, electricity and other fuels":

Housing rent (average 19.4%), water (30.4%), charcoal (29.1%), propane gas (50.9%), kerosene (119.5%)

Health:

Medicines (on average 29.7%) and glasses with corrective lenses (20.7%).

Transportation:

Private vehicle maintenance (26.2%) and petrol and diesel (66.7%).

It should be noted that a greater price increase was observed at the level of imported products, i.e. 33.0% year-on-year against 19.1% for local products.

Consumer Price Index for the whole country by consumption function:

General index: 24.0% over one year and +0.6% for the month of January 2022

Food and non-alcoholic beverages: month 0.8%, year 25.5%

Alcoholic beverages and tobacco: month () , year (12.0)%

Clothing and footwear: month 0.3%, year 24.7%

Housing, water, gas, electricity and other fuels: month 0.5%, year 26.0%

Furniture, household items and routine household maintenance: month 0.3%, year 22.8%

Health: month 0.8%, year 25.5%

Transport: month 0.3%, year 22.8%

Communication: month 0.2%, year 4.6%

Leisure: month 0.8%, year 13.9%

Education: month (), year 9.0%

Restaurants: month (), year 29.3%

Miscellaneous goods and services: month 0.9%, year 24.2%

Annual change in the CPI (inflation):

Global CPI: 2021 January 18.7%; February 17.9%; March 17.2%. April 16.0%; May 14.5%; June 12.7%; July 12.3%; August 10.9%; September 13.1%; October 19.7%; November 24.6%; December 24.7% 2022 January 24.0%

CPI for Local Products: 2021 January 18.5%; February 17.3%; March 16.9%; April 15.7; June 11.8%; July 10.8%; August 9.3%; September 10.9%; October 16.2%; November 20.4%; December 19.7% 2022 January 19.1%

CPI Imported Products: 2021 January 19.0%; February 18.3%; March 17.5%; April 16.5%; June 14.2%; July 14.9; August 13.8%; September 17.1%; October 26.1; November 32.3%; December 33.7% 2022 January 33.0%

CPI by geographic region (September 2021):

All regions therefore contributed to the increase in inflation in November 2021 for the country as a whole. It should be noted, however, that the most significant regional variations compared to October 2021 are observed for the Rest West 25.6% and the South 25.9%.

Metropolitan area: year 23.2%

(Port-au-Prince, Delmas, Pétion-ville, Carrefour and Croix des Bouquet);

Rest West: year 25.6%

(South-East and West Departments without the metropolitan area);

North: year +22.8%

(North, North East and North West Department);

South: year +25.9%

(Department of the South, Grande-Anse and Nippes);

Transversal: year +23.4%

(Department of Center and Artibonite).
