Haiti - Switzerland : Nearly 8,000 professionals already certified under the SQUAT program

Friday, February 4, 2022, as part of a workshop, the team of the "Qualification and Access to Work System" (SQUAT) Program which oversees interventions in the field of vocational training, more specifically in the field of construction, funded by the Embassy of Switzerland in Haiti, implemented by the Caritas Switzerland Consortium and Swisscontact, provided an update on this 4-year program, in the presence, among others, of Nesmy Manigat, Minister National Education and Vocational Training.

The main achievements of the SQUAT since its implementation in 2019 and the outlook for the year 2022, as well as the importance of the program for the vocational training sector (where the emphasis has been placed on the quality of training and certification), the professional integration of trained young people and support for strengthening governance in the sector, were presented to Minister Manigat.

SQUAT, which has already carried out numerous actions in the South, South-East and West for nearly 2 1/2 years, aims to improve the employability of construction craftsmen and those working in other identified sectors. as bearers, thanks to the synergy between public, private and associative actors as well as technical and financial partners.

According to the details of Monica Del Sarto, Head of the SQUAT Program, construction professionals and other promising sectors have better access to the labor market (integration, employment and self-employment) in connection with initial and continuous training of quality, supported by other financial and social inclusion measures that also emphasize gender equity. These training courses are demand-driven and supplemented by a system of certification of acquired experience.

About 8,000 professionals from different sectors have already been certified under this program, which only aims to facilitate the certification process at the state level. Continuing education is the central point of the program.

Note that this program filieres-construction.html will end in April 2023.
