Michel Martelly, the President of the Republic of Haiti, made a working visit to Santiago de Chile where he was received with pomp and honor on behalf of the Republic of Haiti, by the people of Chile and the President Sebastián Piñera.

On this occasion, the Head of State met with his Chilean counterpart about bilateral relations, especially in areas related to education, social housing in favor of the population, national defense, the professionalization of the police and agriculture. He visited housing projects has explored with Chilean experts the funding model used in order to reproduce them for the Haitian people. It was an important moment for the Chilean hosts to receive a Haitian president in Santiago where he was invited to dinner with his counterpart and his suite, and to visit institutions whose the police academy.

President Piñera, who was accompanied by senior officials of his cabinet including the Ministers of Defence and Education, has also promised to strengthen the cooperation with Haiti in the field of preschool education which is one of the priorities of the President Martelly.

The Head of State met for over an hour, the Haitian police officers currently in specialization course in Chile and reminded them how the Haitian Nation counts on them.

This working travel should also lead the President of the Republic in Argentina at the invitation of President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner. Martelly President took the opportunity to send greetings of sympathy to the presidential family and thank the people of Argentina and President Kirchner of this warm invitation.

However, the President Martelly sent to Buenos Aires, a high-level delegation, headed by his political adviser Daniel Supplice, accompanied by Senator Francisco De la Cruz, of Jean Edner Nelson and of Herbert Docteur. This delegation will have to discuss with officials of the Government of Argentina in order to explore the areas of collaboration, of exchanges and of cooperation between the two countries.

The President of the Republic will return to the country this weekend.
