Haiti - Security : The PNH receives a donation to strengthen border surveillance

Yesterday the National Police of Haiti (PNH) has received a donation of 16 pick-up, 30 motorcycles, three buildings to house two dormitories for instructors and one office for forensic as well as furniture and computer equipment and specialized for forensic. This donation valued at more than $ 2.5 million was donated by the International Organization for Migration (IOM) and the Japanese Government, it aims, among other, to strengthen border surveillance.

The ceremony for the handing over of this donation was held at the Police Academy to Frère, in the presence of the Inspector General Jean Yonel Trécil, also chief of staff of the Director General of the HNP, Mario Andrésol, he Ambassador of Japan in Haiti, Kentaro Minami and Luca Dall'Oglio Head of Mission, IOM Haiti. Mr. Trécil thanked the Japanese government and IOM, is assured that the HNP will make good use of this donation, recognizing that the challenges are numerous at the level of the border area, however the Inspector General Trécil precise that with the help of its partners the PNH will be able to cope with problems.

M. Minami, informed that this donation to the PNH is a demonstration of solidarity of his country towards Haiti, and that this reflects the will of the Japanese Government to continue to help Haiti to move forward on the path of the reconstruction.

Mr. Dall'Oglio, wishes for his part that the vehicles offered to the PNH can be used to improve the control of the border area and prevent smuggling, especially of children.
