On Saturday January 8, 2022 in the morning, a "Saint-Jean Baptiste" public transport bus from Jean-Rabel to Port-au-Prince was intercepted by armed men at La Croix Perisse, a locality located between the commune of l'Estère and Gonaïves (Artibonite).

Nearly 60 passengers including schoolchildren and the driver were taken under hostage by the "Kokorat sans ras" gang which has controlled this area for months and sows terror day and night with impunity... confirmed the departmental delegate Tchawel César.

According to some sources the kidnappers would have demanded 5,000 US dollars in ransom for the release of each hostage. Other sources speak of a larger amount to free some hostages and return the bus...
