Haiti - FLASH : Fire at the Cluny market in Cap Haitien

On the night of December 21 to 22, 2021 in Cap-Haitien, a violent fire of unknown origin broke out at the Cluny market on Rue 9, several merchandise warehouses were reduced to ashes. The material losses are significant, but no loss of human life is to be deplored according to Deputy Mayor Patrick Almonor.

After several hours the firefighters managed to contain the flames.

Following this new tragedy which strikes Cap-Haitien (after the explosion of a tanker truck on December 14 which left 90 dead https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-35530-haiti-flash-tragedy-of-cap-haitien-national-funeral-postponed-this-tuesday.html ), Prime Minister ai Ariel Henry declared "I express my full solidarity with the traders of the Cluny market in Cap-Haitien struck by a fire. While congratulating the firefighters who were able to contain the fire, I demand that light be shed around this new disaster which is affecting the population of Capoise."

For his part, Berto Dorcé, the Minister of Justice and Public Security reacting to this new tragedy affecting Cap-Haitien declared "I deplore the fire that occurred last night at the Cluny market in Cap-Haitien. I gave formal instructions to Me Richemont Florival, Government Commissioner of the jurisdiction to initiate an investigation into the circumstances surrounding this act in order to determine its responsibilities."
