Haiti - Social : JCI launches the «Active Citizenship Week»

To celebrate the fifth anniversary of the refoundation of youth chamber movement in Haiti, the Jeune Chambre Internationale Haïti (JCI Haïti) organizes until August 17 the "Week of active citizenship."

This week of active citizenship will mobilize all local decentralized structures of the JCI Haiti, including the JCI Citadelle Henry (North), JCI Saint Marc (Artibonite), JCI Jacmel (Southeast) and JCI Sublime, JCI Innovation and JCI Excellence (West). It will also be a week of renewal of the commitment of young active citizens of this country, to serve their community in order to build a better Haiti.

"The week of active citizenship reflects the commitment of each young citizens, members of the JCI Haiti to create positive change. JCI Haiti, will not only celebrate the efforts of these young leaders, but also promoting the active citizenship as a compass of real change we want to see in this country that we all love" declared Widlyn Dornevil National President of JCI 2011 Haiti.

Several initiatives will mark that event throughout the country, including:

  • In Port-au-Prince, training on the Leadership and the management of group, a day of awareness on the impact of drug consumption among youth.

  • In Delmas, the organization of a day named "Konbit rekonstriksyon, la jenès devan" whose purpose is to inform the general public, civil society and the authorities of the State of the construction project of multipurpose center.

  • In Croix des Bouquets, a forum on civic engagement;

  • In Jacmel and Saint Marc, the official launch of two young newly created local chambers.

  • In Cap Haitien, the launch of a contest on the remediation plan of the cit of Cap

Active citizenship is everyone's business, government, media, unions, business associations and also young people who are the future of this country. Henry Giessenbier, founder of the first Young Chamber Organisation in 1915, has observed that young people needed a constructive approach to civic problems to make of the difference - the essence of active citizenship.
