Haiti - FLASH : Arbitrarily repatriated, 5 Haitians return to the USA thanks to the OPC

The Office for the Protection of the Citizen (OPC), an independent National Institution for the Protection of Human Rights, recalls that on October 30, 2021, the American Government had repatriated to Haiti, 112 compatriots judged in an irregular migratory situation.

However, when they arrived in Haiti, after an investigation into the status of these returnees by the OPC Deportations and Repatriates Service, it turned out that 5 compatriots had been arbitrarily repatriated.

Thanks to the Office's plea, the American authorities reconsidered the case of these compatriots, who finally returned legally to the United States on December 10.

The OPC welcomes the openness of the American authorities in the treatment of this file and as a prelude to the International Migrants Day (December 18), asks the Haitian Chancellery and the Ministry of Haitians Living Abroad (MHAVE) to assume their responsibilities for the protection of compatriots living abroad.

Note that the series of repatriation of Haitians in irregular migration situation by the United States continues. Monday, December 13, two flights landed in Port-au-Prince, the first (at noon) with 111 Haitians on board including 17 children, the second (13:30) with 130 Haitians including 14 children. Further repatriations are scheduled until December 17, 2021, with two flights per day.
