Haitian businessman Samir Handal, suspected of complicity in the assassination of President Jovenel Moïse, under wanted notice https://www.icihaiti.com/en/news-34395-icihaiti-assassination-of-the-president-5-new-suspects.html and a warrant to bring from the Prosecutor's Office of Port-au-Prince, was arrested in Turkey on Sunday November 14, 2021 in the evening on his arrival on a Turkish Airlines flight from Miami where he was living in hiding, announced the Haitian Minister of Foreign Affairs Claude Joseph. Turkey has been alerted to the arrival of Samir Handal by US authorities as part of international police assistance in this case.

"I just had a telephone conversation with the Turkish Chancellor, my friend Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu, to thank Turkey for the arrest of Samir Handal, one of the people of great interest in the investigation into the assassination of President Jovenel Moïse [...] We are going to continue diplomatic efforts with Turkey so that Samir Handal can be transferred quickly to Haiti and appear in court. Chancellor Joseph sent a correspondence to Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu, requesting rapid processing of Samir Handal's transfer to Haiti.

We are also working with other friendly countries to ensure that all suspects fleeing abroad are arrested and tried," said Claude Jospeh.
