Haiti - FLASH : Bandits attack and vandalize the Sacré-Coeur hospital in Milot

On the night from Sunday October 31 to Monday November 1st, 2021 between 2:00 a.m. and 3:00 a.m., bandits armed with machetes and automatic weapons attacked the Sacré-Cœur de Milot hospital, one of the referral hospitals in the department of North.

At first, these individuals unsuccessfully asked the hospital to hand over an injured patient who thsy said was being treated there to kill him, for an unknown reason.

Faced with the refusal of the hospital, the individuals began by strafing the facade of the center, then vandalized the parking lot more than a dozen vehicles including ambulances, tried to put out of service the generator supplying the hospital with electricity, before forcefully invest the premises and destroy everything in their path, causing panic among staff and patients.

They smashed the windows and many equipment, set the laboratory and hospital archives on fire before leaving the premises without the man they was looking for, according to Dr Harold Previl Executive Director of Sacré-Coeur Hospital, who qualified this attack as "the height of human stupidity".

Despite the extent of the damage, no injuries were reported.

By midday, the hospital seemed abandoned, most of the patients having been transferred to other health centers. A large police presence was visible near the hospital while during the attack the police were conspicuous by its absence...

Dr Harold Prévil announced in a press note that together with the other officials of the Center it was decided to close the Sacré-Cœur hospital until further notice and he asked the judicial and police authorities to investigate in in order to shed light on this attack and punish the perpetrators of these barbaric acts ...
