Haiti - Weather : 12 hours before the first effects of Emily

To 10am, this Wednesday, the center of the Tropical Storm Emily was located to 16.7 degrees north and 69.7 degrees West. At 347 km South East of Port au Prince (216 miles) with sustained winds (maximum) of 80 km/h (50 mph).

Emily is currently moving at 22 km/h (14 mph) along a trajectory West.

According to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Emily becoming disorganized while moving westward, heavy rains are still awaited on the island of Hispaniola. The center of Emily should enter on Haiti in the next 12 hours.

Following the current trajectory, Emily is located at:

202 km (125 mi) of Santo Domingo

347 km (216 mi) of Port-au-Prince

341 km (212 mi) of Pétion Ville

345 km (215 mi) of Jacmel

371 km (230 mi) of Léogâne

415 km (258 mi) of Saint Marc

At a conference given at National Emergency Operations Center (COUN), yesterday Tuesday, August 2, 2011, the President Martelly has provided recommendations to the citizens, recalling that all sectors are mobilized to support the structures of civil protection and help the population.

The team of the Centre of the COUN is prepared, available throughout the country and is able to assist, if necessary, about 300,000 people. The President reiterates his determination to accompany them. About 1.252 shelters are available at the Ministry of the Interior, an emergency fund of one million gours per department with the possibility to be increase, if necessary, in some departments was mobilized.
