Haiti - DR : Abinader call for disarmament in Haiti

On Wednesday, the presidents of the Dominican Republic, Costa Rica and host Panama agreed that they need the active support of the United States to effect the changes that Haiti needs, a country drowned in a deep political crisis, economical and sanitary.

In the joint declaration signed by the three leaders, they proposed to the international community a series of urgent actions in Haiti aimed at achieving disarmament, job creation and the recovery of hydrographic basins in Haiti.

The construction of the necessary infrastructures identified by the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) involves the creation of jobs that would mitigate the massive migration of Haitians to other countries in the Americas.

However, Dominican President Luis Abinader stressed during his intervention at the press conference that before developing any project in the impoverished nation, the disarmament of the population is necessary and this can only be achieved with the intervention by the United States. "Beforehand, disarmament and pacification must be achieved in Haiti, which is a preamble to free and transparent elections. In this sense, the United States, obviously, because of their economic level, the political and military power is the main government to carry out, with us, these changes in Haiti," declared Abinader.

This is why, after the meeting with Laurentino Cortizo of Panama, Carlos Alvarado, of Costa Rica, and Luis Abinader of the Dominican Republic, it was agreed to entrust their ambassadors in Washington with the task of bringing the recommendations and proposals to North American Congress, the State Department and all the entities that are required, such as ECLAC and the UNDP in favor of inviting "active" support for the integral and sustainable development of Haiti.
