While the Government is providing support to families affected by the earthquake of August 14, 2021, storm Grace claimed 4 new victims in the South-East department.

The most affected commune is Marigot with 500 houses flooded out of a total of 615 for the entire department.

In addition, 3 significant aftershocks of magnitude 4.7 to 5.1 have been recorded in the last 48 hours. The people of the Great South must continue to respect security measures due to the numerous aftershocks that continue to occur and not take shelter in damaged houses that are in danger of collapsing.

The number of assembly points for displaced people continues to increase. They have changed 38 to 79 since Tuesday's last report. The Government is advocating the construction of semi-temporary housing near the living areas of homeless families and the delivery of aid on a case-by-case basis to the most affected neighborhoods.

For their part, PAHO/WHO teams in Haiti are on the ground and continue to assess the impact of the earthquake on health infrastructure in the departments of South, Grand’Anse and Nippes. According to their latest assessment in these 3 departments, 36 health facilities were affected, of which 4 were destroyed and 32 damaged.

In addition, Thursday August 19 during a press briefing, the divisional inspector Marie Michelle Verrier the spokesperson for the National Police of Haiti declared that the earthquake of August 14 had left 25 injured in the ranks of the PNH and more than 400 buildings (police residences, sub-police stations, police stations, prison centers) were severely damaged.
