Haiti - Politic : The President Martelly, in visit in the Great North 25/07/2011 10:23:35
At the entrance to the city, unknown persons have disrupted the festive atmosphere, throwing a few stones and glass bottles toward the presidential cortege "There was a minor incident where malicious individuals have sent bottles on the crowd who walked alongside the President [...] There were no injuries" commented the Head of State. The National Police of Haiti (PNH) confirms that it made several arrests of people considered as suspects, following this incident. While reiterating his campaign promises, the President Martelly has announced the rehabilitation of the road Gonaïves/Cap-Haïtien. He also wanted to clarify that a real development pole in the North can not exist, without an airport with international standards. In this regard, the President said that steps were under way, concerning the extension of the runway of the airport of Cap-Haïtien, in order to meet these international standards. In addition to concrete actions to pose in order to boost tourism, the President also intends to implement projects related to education, electricity, housing and job creation. In this sense, he announced the creation of 35,000 jobs from the opening of Caracol Industrial Park in March 2012 and the construction of 5,000 decent homes in the area. During his speech, the President Martelly, discussed the current political crisis "it is important as parliamentarians ratify the Prime Minister to unblock the country. Every day that passes it is the people who loses [...] I ask to the parliamentarians to ratify the Prime Minister so that I can move forward. Because every day that passes, Haiti miss a lot of opportunity..." The Head of State took advantage of circumstances to formally deny the rumors, relayed in some Haitian media, about a possible withdrawal scheduled/planned of his Prime Minister designate, Bernard Gousse. For the President Martelly, the urgency of the hour is to provide a better image of Haiti throughout the world and to work to find a better life for the Haitian people. He therefore urged all the sectors to participate actively to achieve the desired results during his five-year term. Other visits are planned this week that aim the revival of this important sector of the national economy. Meanwhile, the First Lady, Sophia Martelly was welcomed by women leaders to the delegation of North in Cap Haïtien. She also visited the Presbytery of Milot, for a meeting with the Milotiens and visited the Hospital of the Baptist Convention (Hôpital de la Convention Baptiste).
