Haiti - Security : The canine unit is at work
The National Police of Haiti (PNH), has recently acquired six specialized dogs, trained in the detection of narcotics, explosives and currencies. The Canine Unit is now at work, at the airport International of Port-au-Prince, the regional airport and the port.

The dogs, purchased and trained through United States government funding, were offered to the Haitian Government through the Narcotics Affairs Section (NAS) of the U.S. Embassy in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, as part of the continued support of the United States to strengthen the capacity of the National Police of Haiti (PNH).

Following a solid training of five and a half months, in Dominican Republic and Colombia, the six dog handlers of the PNH / BLTS (Office for the Fight against Illicit Narcotics Trafficking) and their dogs [Annie, Tony, Carla, Izzy, Toya et Loly], have began their operations at the International Airport in Port-au-Prince. The new Canine Unit of the PNH is a component of BLTS. One of the six dogs will be used for the detection of explosives and one for the detection of money. Canine operations are conducted in cooperation with the DEA (Drug Enforcement Administration).
