Haiti - Obituary : The world of literature mourns the departure of Dieudonné Fardin
On Sunday July 4, an elderly Dieudonné Fardin, man of letters, journalist, teacher, editor and literary critic, made the great journey to the Eternal East at the age of 85.

Pradel Henriquez, the Minister of Culture in a note wrote "[...] the unexpected departure of Dieudonné Fardin, is a heavy loss for the print in Haiti, and above all, for the book, for the Haitian authors and for all the Haitian literature.

Fardin left with a feeling of duty accomplished. The country is grateful to him; he has immortalized more than two centuries of Haitian literary writing.

Minister Henriquez expresses his sympathies to the family of the publisher, Dieudonné Fardin, who played a major role in the production and dissemination of contemporary Haitian literature."

Find out more about Dieudonné Fardin :
Of his real name Louis-Marie Benoit Pierre, Dieudonné Fardin was born in Saint-Louis-du-Nord, on November 18, 1936.

Dieudonné Fardin is the grandson of General Thimoléon Jadotte, former head of the military house of President Florvil Hyppolite and cousin of Benoît Batraville, a great figure in the resistance to the American occupation of 1915.

Dieudonné Fardin completed his primary and secondary studies with the Brothers of Christian Instruction and the Lycée Tertulien Guilbaud in Port-de-Paix.

He becomes in turn : teacher in a primary school in the city, secretary of direction and teacher at the Lycée Tertulien Guilbaud and finally editor.

On his own, he represents the spearhead of the popularization of the history and of the evolution of more than two centuries of Haitian literary and intellectual production. Founder of Fardin editions, Dieudonné Fardin has succeeded in putting into circulation rare works, more precisely, the fundamentals of this vast and rich literary production from our region, in the space of about fifty years, thanks to his passion, his will.

In 1961, with the collaboration of certain young people of his generation : Cauvin Paul, Hérodote Mégalos, Gilbert Gayot, Lhérisson Alezi, Jérôme Mazard, Jean Théagène, he founded the Movement for the Regeneration of North-West Haiti, a structure created for the advancement of this department known then for its strict compartmentalization. In this same perspective, he initiated Literary Fridays, a kind of weekly meeting from which "Le Petit Samedi Soir" was born, a weekly newspaper which gave voice to the beautiful feathers of his time.

In 1964, he moved to Port-au-Prince and settled in Ruelle Vaillant. He met his cousin Hérard Jadotte and surrounded himself with personalities who would later mark the literary and cultural production of the country: Théodore Achille Jr, Max Cantave, his former Latin teacher at Port-de-Paix, Charles Alexandre Abellard, man of the theater, the poet and novelist Gérard Étienne, the actor François Latour, the radio man Gérard Résil "
