Haiti - Covid-19 : Japan grants $2MM to strengthen the cold chain for vaccination in Haiti

On Wednesday, the Japanese government granted UNICEF US $2 millions in emergency aid for the imminent arrival of 130,000 doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine for the improvement of the cold chain in Haiti and for better storage of vaccines (storage and transport between 2 and 8 degrees Celsius). "So that every Haitian has equitable access to vaccines against the COVID-19 pandemic, Japan is working alongside the Ministry of Health and UNICEF, to strengthen the cold chain and provide quality vaccination to most vulnerable communities," said Ambassador of Japan accredited to Haiti, Mitsuaki Mizumo. This support from Japan to the Government of Haiti is part of a global assistance worth 39 million to 31 countries in Latin America and the Caribbean and Africa for the acquisition of cold chain equipment, including medical equipment such as cold storage and transport facilities. "Thanks to this donation, UNICEF will continue to optimize the cold chain to improve vaccination against Covid-19, especially in the most remote communes of Haiti," said Bruno Maes, UNICEF Representative in Haiti.
