The Haitian Olympic Committee (COH) closed at Ganthier, its school program "Sport is the school of life". More than 3,000 children from 24 schools, including 8 of Ganthier and 16 of Fond Parisien, took part in this program, started in March.

This program, according to Enite Joseph Noël, regional manager, was held in nine cities: Trou-du-Nord, Ouanaminthe, Fort-Liberté, Cité Soleil, Ganthier-Parisien, Belladère, Thomazeau, Mirebalais and Lascahobas. The COH has mobilized 80 monitors, 10 area coordinators and two regional managers for the success of these activities.

"All the schools in the area have welcomed this activity. In addition to the sport, the children have attended courses on topics related to environmental protection, health (HIV/AIDS and cholera) and family planning, "said Maurice Junior Morélus, coordinator of the area "more than 2,000 parents attended each weekend, to activities. It was at their request that the monitors and coordinators have provided training on topics that our society considers "taboo."

Launched in March 2007, the program "Sport is the school of life" uses sport and its social values ​​to instill a responsible behavior among young participants. The program introduces several sports in schools. Kencia Toussaint, instructor, said that sport is a tool "which allows cohesion within communities [...] Through this program, we found that cohesion within the population, and children are now trained in how they should behave in society and live healthy."

Note that this school program is one of three distinct actions of the major program "Sport for Peace and Development" initiated in 2006 by the COH. The other two actions are the summer camps and the "Friendship Games Haitian-Dominican" whose the fourth edition will take place in Ganthier/Jimani, in the presence of the best athletes of the program "Sport is the school of life "of the area Ganthier/Fond Parisien.
