Haiti - Diaspora : The FNE supports the schooling of young people with disabilities

Joseph Frantz Nicolas, the Director General of the National Education Fund (FNE), initialed an agreement to help the process of schooling of the children and young people with special educational needs with the Haitian Society of Aid to the Blind (SHAA) represented by Michel A. Péan, its National Coordinator.

The objective of this assistance is to provide SHAA reception structures with materials suitable for the use of students with disabilities; cover the tuition fees of pupils with special needs in precarious economic situations and support the production of school books adapted to the conditions of blind pupils.

The amount of this support from FNE funds collected on international calls and money transfers from the diaspora https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-32655-haiti-flash-what-did-the-fne-do-with-tax-money-from-the-diaspora-in-2020.html amounts to 3 million 277 thousand 180 gourdes, is paid in full to the SHAA which will produce a report on the use and the distribution of funding received under this agreement.

Let's recall that the FNE is required, according to article 27 on its creation, organization and operation, has among other obligations "to ensure the construction and equipment of suitable establishments and the payment of tuition fees for students with special educational needs, such as children and young people with disabilities."
