The First Lady of the Republic of Haiti, Mrs. Sophia Martelly, accompanied by the Mayor of the town of Port-au-Prince, Jean Yves Jason Muscadin, visited the communal Asylum of Port-au-Prince to the Rue St-Martin this Tuesday, July 5, 2011, to better know the situation of seniors living in the center.

This visit allowed the First Lady to identify the various problems faced by these people in the aftermath of January 12, 2010. The space is largely damaged and some affected, are also accommodated in this place. A situation of congestion that makes difficult the management of the center.

Thirty-nine (39) men and seventeen (17) women aged between 60 and 115 years live there now. They thanked the First Lady who, they say, bring a wind of hope in the center. Since more than four years, official visits are increasingly rare in the communal Asylum.

The First Lady has received, during this visit, a wreath of the Management Committee of the space. Members want, by this gesture, to express their gratitude to Mrs. Martelly, who by her presence, demonstrated the attention that the Executive attaches to the lower class and the most vulnerable. They hope that the next government is working to get them out of that space.

The First Lady has, during this day, also discussed with the people of the area of St. Martin who congratulated it for the social work she does alongside the Head of State. Speaking to journalists present at the communal Asylum, Mrs. Martelly has promised to consider the situation and the various recommendations of the residents of the communal Asylum.
