Haiti - Obituary : Funeral of Franck Louissaint, a great master of Haitian art

Painter, drawer and plastic artist Franck Louissaint, a great master of Haitian art, died on February 5 at the age of 71.

Pradel Henriquez, the Minister of Culture recalls "[...] While his works are exhibited on the occasion of the Haiti festival, the Printemps de l'Art, while preparations are underway to celebrate with brilliance deserved his 50-year career, the prodigious painter, the seasoned teacher, the illustrious restorer has left this life.

Franck was this artist with a photographic eye, meticulous fingers and sensitive to the emotions of the people he saw. What gave him to take again with precision the features of these faces which he met and especially, to transmit a part of their soul.

He has restored to perfection several important works for the Haitian artistic heritage severely damaged following the earthquake of January 12, 2010.

Franck Louissaint has dedicated his life to painting and education. Apart from the drawing and painting courses he gave in various institutions, both public and private, he also helped to set up the artistic and cultural education program for schools.

Franck Louissaint, was one of the oldest professors at the National School of Arts [...] his sense of precision, his mastery of brushes and colors earned him to be considered the father of Haitian realism. Franck, you were highly respected in artistic circles and in the cultural world for your competence, your know-how, your genius, you will continue to be considered for this precious heritage that you leave us.

[...] At this turning point in the greatness and the miseries of our culture and our contemporary creation, the Ministry of Culture and Communication through my organ, can only pay homage to you for the light that you have always been able to bring to our life.

Go in Peace !

And may your wife, your children, your bereaved relatives, all the people and institutions affected by your departure, without forgetting the artistic sector in general, the cultural press, accept our most sincere and most touched sympathies."

His funeral will be sung on Friday February 12, 2021, at 8:30 a.m., at Parc du Souvenir, in Tabarre.
