Haiti - Politic : Remarks of Martelly to the 32nd Meeting of the Conference of Heads of Government of the Caricom

In his first address to the 32nd Meeting of the Conference of Heads of Government of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) In his first address to the 32nd Summit of Heads of State of CARICOM held in San Cristóbal and Nieves, until July 4, the President Michel Martelly, asked the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) to suspend the requirement of visas for the Haitians.

At the same time, the Chief of the Haitian state, pledged to do whatever is necessary to promote the development of the CARICOM Single Market and Economy (CSME) and to promote the free movement of goods, capital, labor and services among the countries of the region.

"We will do our utmost to enable this process and that the Haitian economy in the short term integrates the other CARICOM states, especially in areas such as agriculture, industry and services," said President Martelly "Haiti is impatient, to offer to the investors of the CARICOM a stable environment, to participate in the development and economic growth of Haiti [...] I'm going to give formal instructions, so that the negotiations be resumed with the Caribbean Development Bank in this sense" he assured.

Martelly President is confident that by the end of his term in 2016, he will succeed to significantly improve the lives of its citizens, including their education through the strengthening of cooperation with the University of West Indies (UWI).

In addition, the Head of State, has proposed to the 15 CARICOM member countries to adopt French as their official language. The President Martelly recalled that "The system of integration of Caricom is one of the most advanced on the continent, but also the only place in the world where English is the only language used, despite the fact that the French and Creole is used by 50% of the population [of member countries]."

During the meeting with the Heads of State, the President Martelly, has proposed that Haiti host the annual summit of CARICOM in 2013.
