Haiti - Venezuela : Haiti rejects elections in Venezuela

On Monday, nearly twenty countries including Haiti signed a joint declaration denouncing the lack of legality and legitimacy of the legislative elections held this Sunday in Venezuela.

The signatories hereof which includes members of the Lima Group, countries of America : Brazil, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Guyana, Honduras, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, and Caribbean : Haiti, the Dominican Republic and Saint Lucia; in the document calls on the international community to reject these elections labeled as fraudulent and to support efforts to restore democracy, respect for human rights and the rule of law in Venezuela.

The group of countries reaffirm that Sunday's elections to the National Assembly of Venezuela were held "without the minimum guarantees of a democratic process, freedom, security and transparency, neither of the integrity of the votes, nor of the participation of all political forces, no international observation."

Let's recall that the Venezuelan legislative elections this Sunday were won by the official Venezuelan alliance of the Grand Patriotic Pole (GPP) with 67.6% of the votes cast, while nearly 85% of the votes had been counted, marking a victory without surprise of Chavism, during an election where a high rate of abstention was at the rendezvous.
