Haiti - Social : International Day Against Violence Against Women (Video)

As part of the International Day against Violence against Women celebrated on November 25, the European Union wishes to mark throughout this week the importance of Women's Rights and domestic violence against women and girls in Haiti.

Recalling that 30% of Haitian women and girls are victims of physical violence, Sylvie Tabesse the Ambassador of the European Union in Haiti declared "It is a fundamental problem and it is important for the European Union to be able to contribute in the fight against this scourge which affects all categories of women regardless of their background [...]"

Note that the fight against violence against women and girls is at the center of an awareness campaign displayed in the streets of the capital. This awareness campaign is implemented as part of the "Spotlight" joint program, co-funded by the European Union and the United Nations.

The 3rd AGORA Program focused on the theme of the fight against violence against women :

Marie Giselhaine Mompremier, Minister for the Status of Women, Danièle Magloire, sociologist, member of the Coordination of the National Consultation and co-founder of Kay Fanm, Dede Ekoue, Representative of UN WOMEN, former Minister, advisor to the President of Togo, Dilia Lemaire, lawyer and human rights activist, head of the legal clinic of MOUFHED, the movement of Haitian women for education and development, Aniceto Rodriguez Ruiz, head of cooperation of the Delegation among others who address the issue of violence based on the genre in Haiti.
