Haiti - Justice : Launch of the Assets Verification and Surveillance Brigade

Thursday, October 22, Me. Hans Ludwig Joseph, Director General of the Anti-Corruption Unit (ULCC) in the presence of the Deputy Government Commissioner to the Court of First Instance of Port-au-Prince, Me Néhémie Jean-Baptiste, Representative of the Government Commissioner launched the Assets Verification and Surveillance Brigade.

This Brigade, a body to strengthen the fight against corruption, has the main responsibilities of analyzing the declarations of assets made by those who are subject in order to identify any breach and make the appropriate corrections; carry out the detection of false declarations and the physical verification of the declared assets with or without the declarant; discreetly monitor the development of the assets of political figures, civil servants and public officials "The main mission of this brigade will be to physically verify the movable, immovable, tangible and intangible assets which are part of the assets of the declarants. This in situ verification will allow the ULCC to highlight false declarations, inaccurate or incomplete declarations in order to anticipate any act of illicit enrichment and to protect public and collective goods as indicated in the decree of September 8 a Mr. Hans Ludwig Joseph clarified in his speech for the occasion," adding that it was an expert work that will be carried out with all the discretion that this requires throughout the national territory.

In his intervention, Me Néhémie Jean-Baptiste, the Deputy Government Commissioner, congratulated the ULCC for this initiative and gave the assurance that the Public Prosecutor's Office, as responsible for criminal prosecution and defender of the interests of society, will provide all its support and collaboration to this initiative.
