Haiti - Diplomacy : Vietnam urges all actors in Haiti to dialogue

During the video conference of the United Nations Security Council last week, Ambassador Dang Dinh Quy, Head of the Permanent Mission of Vietnam to the UN called on the Government of Haiti and the parties concerned to participate in a constructive way of dialogue in order to move towards global solutions for the country.

Diplomat Dang Dinh Quy expressed his concern over the challenges and instability in Haiti. He ruled that the political stalemate was the primary cause of the multiple instabilities, therefore he urged political parties and civil society to engage in constructive dialogue in view of the organization of general elections next year. On this point, Vietnam also called for an increased representation of young people and women in ongoing political processes.

In terms of security, the Vietnamese mission stressed that gang violence, by challenging the authority of the State, had deleterious effects on the daily life of the populations. In this context, the mission insisted that the government and local authorities improve the Haitian legal framework and take the necessary security measures, in particular to protect women and children.

At this Council besides Vietnam, the member countries of the Security Council strongly condemned the violence and praised BINUH's support for political transformation, stressing that Haiti must intensify constitutional reform while the international community must continue to support the country to resolve the current difficulties.
