Haiti - UN : The mandate of BINUH, renewed for one year

On Thursday, the 15 members of the UN Security Council adopted with 13 votes in favor and 2 abstentions, the resolution 2547 which extends until October 15, 2021, the mandate of the United Nations Integrated Office in Haiti (BINUH) whose operation began in October 2019, under the leadership of American diplomat Helen La Lime. Recall that BINUH was created with the aim of advising the Haitian Government on how to promote and strengthen stability and good governance.

Among the 5 permanent members, China and Russia abstained, while the United States and France. And the UK voted in favor. The 10 members elected by the General Assembly for a two-year term [South Africa (2020), Germany (2020), Belgium (2020), Estonia (2021), Indonesia (2020), Niger (2021), Dominican Republic (2020), Saint Vincent and the Grenadines (2021), Tunisia (2021) and Viet Nam (2021)] adopted this resolution unanimously
