Haiti - Culture : Toussaint Louverture letter to France 17/06/2011 12:29:10
On Saturday, June 18 at 2:30pm will take place in the room FOKAL-UNESCO of the cultural center of the avenue Christophe, the presentation of the book "Lettres à la France. Idées pour la libération du peuple noir d'Haïti (1794-1798)" (Letters to France. Ideas for the liberation of black people of Haiti (1794-1798)) which incorporates the letters of Toussaint Louverture to France. This will be followed by a discussion with the authors. This book contains the correspondence of Toussaint Louverture addressed to the the French governor Laveaux during the period 1794-1798. The progress of the Haitian revolution has fostered a relationship of trust and esteem between the two men. This exchange reflects the effort to bring together two cultures and two worlds. The critical apparatus developed by the authors, Mr. Antonio Maria Baggio and Dr. Ricardo Augustin, examines the heritage of the leader of the slaves. Mr. Antonio Maria Baggio, professor of political ethics at the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome and Professor at Sophia Institute in Florence and Dr. Ricardo Augustine, Doctor of Political Science at the Pontifical University Angelicum in Rome, will be present for this presentation under the auspices of the Haitian Institute of Christian social doctrine (IHDOSOC).
