Haiti - FLASH : Outburst of violence of the «police offciers» of the «Phantom 509» Group

On Monday, individuals from the "Phantom 509" Group identifying themselves as "police offciers" of the Haitian National Police (PNH), some hooded others in uniform, again demonstrated violently in the streets of Port-au-Prince to demand the release of the police officer Jean Pascal Alexandre imprisoned since May 13 at the National Penitentiary, accused of accused of murder, arson, destruction of public property and endangering State security https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-30777-haiti-justice-a-police-officer-incarcerated-in-the-penitentiary-the-phantom-group-issues-an-ultimatum.html

After having paralyzed activities in several places in the capital, set fire to and vandalized several State vehicles, including a minibus registered as State Service at the corner of avenue Martin Luther King and rue Bois patate, they attacked the Center for Reception and Delivery of Identity Documents (CRLDI) located at Delmas 31, shooting at the building, invading the premises by firing automatic weapons, sowing panic among the employees, destroying the surveillance cameras and all the equipment that was in the offices before setting them on fire. In a statement, Jude Jacques Elibert, the Director General of the CRLDI explained that the damage are considerable "[...] the equipment was completely destroyed by the flames which partially blackened the facade walls. Bullet holes are visible on the walls and windows of the building. A significant amount of cartridge cases were found inside..."

Heavily armed "police offciers" issued another 24-hour ultimatum to the government to release their brother-in-law.
