Haiti - Justice : The OPC demands the arrest of individuals involved in the clashes in Bel-Air and Bas Delmas

Following clashes between rival gangs in neighborhoods of Bel-Air and Bas Delmas in Port-au-Prince, which began on Saturday 29 and degenerated on Monday 31 August https://www.icihaiti.com/en/news-31691-icihaiti-gangs-violent-armed-clashes-many-victims.html , the Office for the Protection of the Citizen (OPC) demands the arrest of the individuals involved in this armed conflict.

The OPC recalls that this armed conflict between gangs resulted in several gunshot wounds, dozens of houses and vehicles were set on fire in the alleys of Mayard, Candio, Batherlemy and at Carrefour Péan and several scenes of looting reported, pushing dozens of families to flee their homes to take refuge in the Champ-de-Mars.

The name of Jimmy Chérisier aka "Barbecue", presented as a gang leader, is cited among the architects of these clashes.

The Office for the Protection of the Citizen stresses that "These repeated armed conflicts take alarming proportions" and condemns "these atrocious acts which are in violation of the Constitution and of the treaties and conventions relating to human rights ratified by Haiti."

The OPC calls on the authorities concerned to pay special attention to vulnerable categories, particularly those displaced from the Bel-Air and Bas Delmas neighborhoods.
