Haiti - FLASH : The artificial basin of Péligre is in flood - Evacuation - UPDATE 11am

The Directorate General of the Directorate of Civil Protection (DPC) and its departmental coordinations of Center and Artibonite invite the communities bordering the Artibonite River, in particular those downstream from Lake Péligre, to continue to evacuate.

The artificial basin of Péligre is in flood, according to the observations of the local DPC teams. The authorities from Péligre to Grande Saline are insisting on the rapid evacuation of the population as tropical storm Laura is crossing the country.

There are also reports in the West department of flooded streets, floods of water coming from the heights of Pétion-ville, impacting the road of Frères, Delmas, Square Saint Pierre and Ste-Anne in Pétion-ville...

UPDATE : 11h00 am

In Haiti, Red vigilance is decreed (i.e. risk of very violent to extremely violent impact with bans on unnecessary travel in order to leave free movement to the authorities). Flights and boats from or to ports and airports in the northern region of the country, in particular Cap-Haitien, are temporarily prohibited.
