Haiti - Security : United States support to the PNH

The State Department's Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs (INL) Director David Mosby met with the Director General of the Haitian National Police (PNH) Rameau Normil to discuss the Haitian National Police's strategic priorities, including combatting gang violence and kidnapping, strengthening the rule of law and protection of human rights, as well as plans for the next class of PNH recruits. They also discussed U.S. support for the PNH's community police, counter-narcotics unit (BLTS), and border police (POLIFRONT).

Both men agreed on the importance of strengthening the capacity of the PNH Office of the Inspectorate General (IG/PNH) to ensure police officers are held to the highest standard and the Central Administration Directorate (DCA) to ensure proper management controls of PNH resources.

At the end of the discussions Rameau Normil inspected equipment and materials INL is providing to the PNH. These items include protective equipment for police officers serving to ensure public order and citizen safety in the crowd control and anti-riot unit (CIMO), communications gear for the counter-narcotics unit (BLTS), and supplies for assisting the prison administration (DAP) to mitigate the spread of COVID-19 in Haiti's prisons.
