Haiti - COVID-19 : «The reopening of the Airport is not a » dixit the Minister of Transport

The announcement of the reopening of Toussaint Louverture International Airport provoked various diverging reactions, many worried about the risk of the spread of new Covid-19 cases imported into Haiti when international flights resumed.

Nader Joaséus the Minister of Public Works and Transport at a joint press conference wanted to be reassuring "The reopening of Airport will be done in accordance with health principles, internationally recognized and accepted for the time of Covid-19 [...] On June 30, 2020, the reopening of the Airport will be effective. The Ministry of Public Health will take measures to trace everyone on arrival and follow up according to the situation [...] It is up to everyone to take measures to protect themselves by wearing a mask, the use of hydroalcoholic gel and compliance with barrier principles; there has to be a change in behavior. The reopening of the Airport is not a threat."

Myriam Jean, the Minister of Tourism. Held to underline "A new protocol has been implemented at the Airport on departure and arrival respecting the standards of the International Civil Aviation Organization," said Mrs. Myriam Jean, Minister of Tourism.

A permanent structure will be available at the Airport to urgently take care of any case deemed suspicious or serious related to Covid19. Travelers will have to complete a Ministry form and the answers must be correct and sincere.

"Many Haitians who were stranded outside will finally be able to return home. The diaspora wishing to see their family will finally be able to do so in strict compliance with health standards with the reopening of the Airport," said Guy François Junior, Minister Delegate to the Prime Minister in charge of Citizenship and Patriotism.

On July 1, Jet Blue will make the first official recovery flight. Sunrise announced the resumption of its flights between Haiti and the Dominican Republic on July 3 https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-31123-haiti-flash-sunrise-airways-resumes-flights-between-haiti-and-the-dominican-republic.html . American Airlines will resume flights on July 7 and Air Transat on July 29 with a return flight from Montreal/Port-au-Prince.
