Haiti - Humanitarian : Japanese donation of $2.8MM for the purchase of medical equipment

Friday as part of the fight against the Covid-19, Claude Joseph, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and the Japanese Ambassador accredited to Haiti, Mitsuaki Mizumo proceeded to the signing of an Agreement by exchange of notes relating to a donation.

In this context, the Government of Japan will make available to the Haitian Government as a donation, a total amount of approximately 2.8 million US dollars (300 million Yen) intended for the purchase of medical equipment, among others an X-ray system, CT scanners, ambulances and generators, intended for the country's public hospitals.

This contribution from Japanese cooperation supports the efforts of the Moïse-Jouthe administration to contain the spread of Covid-19 in the country and to mitigate its devastating effects on the population.

"Health remains one of the priority sectors of our cooperation with Haiti. However, we are taking a holistic approach that emphasizes multisectoral responses, geared toward protecting life and encouraging individual and conscientious ownership of the country. This is, moreover, reflected in our support, particularly in the fields of natural disaster risk prevention, improving access to water, hygiene and sanitation, strengthening food security and improved access to education," said the Japanese Embassy in a statement.
