Haiti - Politic : The diaspora opposed to the closure of MHAVE

Speaking Saturday on a radio of the capital, Saurel Jacinthe, President of the Chamber of Deputies, said to be in favor of maintaining of the Ministry of Haitians Living Abroad (MHAVE) which is threatened of an eventual disappearance, according to the changes mentioned by Daniel Gérard Rouzier, Prime Minister-designate, https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-3035-haiti-politic-rouzier-announces-changes-in-the-ministries.html In this new approach, the MHAVE would be transferred and/or attached to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MAE).

Although the remarks of Prime Minister-designate, were probably part of a streamlining budgetary perspective, the removal of the MHAVE or a MHAVE as a different form, raises a strong opposition from the diaspora.

Saurel Jacinthe, stated that under no circumstances, a merger with the MAE would be adequate, since "that these organizations are dedicated to tasks completely distinct" A position that joins the voices of a growing number of expatriates, which for some days, asking the new administration not to make this change.

Former Senator, Wesner Emmanuel, who is also opposed to this possible change, stressed the progress made by the MHAVE under the administration of the Minister Leslie Voltaire [2001-2004] and of the current outgoing Minister, Edwin Parison since November 2010, "Nobody can deny that considerable progress has been made in this ministry."

For the community leader, Jean Robert Lafortune, based in Miami, close the MHAVE would be a "colossal mistake" and contradictory to the solicitude already made by the new administration Martelly in terms of support to the education program by charging fees on transfers and phone calls. He indicated that a campaign of pressure on the new Haitian authorities, has been decided by nearly 30 organizations of the diaspora, during a conference call held Saturday to Miami in favor of maintaining of their ministry.
