Haiti - Elections : Pierre Louis Opont is satisfied with Sunday's elections

Pierre Louis Opont, Director General, of the Provisional Electoral Council (CEP) welcomed the proper conduct of parliamentary byelections of Sunday in the constituency of Verrettes, Fonds Verrettes/Ganthier, et Vallée de Jacmel [for the deputation].

Apart the arrest of a supervisor to Verrettes, for attempted fraud and and some difficulties and minor incidents, the election day, in its in its vast majority was successful.

With these elections, the CEP has announced the end of the electoral process, began in November 2010. Process that will have allowed, under conditions often very difficult, the election of the new President of Haiti, Michel Martelly, 99 deputies and 11 Senators, despite the fact that 17 deputies and two senators elected, still waiting for the official confirmation of their results, following the decisions announced by the Special National Complaints and Challenges Bureau (BCEN).

According to the electoral calendar, the preliminary results of the election of last Sunday, will be published on Wednesday, 1 June 2011.
