Haiti - Covid-19 : The Maritime Service of Haiti takes measures to control the ports
Tuesday in press conference Éric Prévost Junior, the Director General of the Maritime and Navigation Service of Haiti (SEMANAH) recalled that as part of the measures taken by the Government to fight against the introduction and spread of Covid-19 in Haiti, all cruise ships were prohibited from docking on the Haitian coast and that only commercial vessels carrying goods are allowed to enter the ports of Haiti.
Regarding commercial vessels, he pointed out that the latter were undergoing inspections by agents of SEMANAH and the Ministry of Public Health before any authorization to dock in one of Haiti’s international ports. He said that SEMANAH had already inspected a dozen commercial vessels, with staff trained to deal with Covid-19 contamination, and that the Ministry of Health had carried out tests on coronavirus on close about twenty crew members.
Éric Prévost Junior said that boats coming from Île-à-Vache, La Gonâve and Latortue Island were allowed to travel without overloading (less goods, passengers and animals).
Furthermore, regarding the beaches, he said that no restriction measures had been taken so far, however recommending the population to avoid mass gatherings on these places.
