Haiti - Security : Magistrates attacked by individuals claiming to be from the PNH

In a note, the Superior Council of the Judicial Power (CSPJ) condemns the attacks on the sidelines of the violent demonstration by police offciers https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-30233-haiti-news-zapping.html which were victims Monday March 9, 5 magistrates by individuals wearing hoods and armed, some in uniform, posing as agents of the National Police of Haiti (PNH).

The Magistrates attacked are : Durin Junior Duret Judge at the Court of Appeal of Port-au-Prince and Advisor to the Superior Council of the Judicial Power (CSPJ) as representative of the courts of appeal of Haiti; Judge Bernard Saint-Vil, Dean and Judge at the Court of First Instance (TPI) of Port-au-Prince; Jean-Étienne Mercier Examining magistrate at the TPI of Port-au-Prince; Jean Bellot Donisant, Deputy Judge at the Delmas Peace Court and David Leblanc, Deputy Judge at the Tabarre Peace Court.

In addition in a press release, Eddy Jackson Alexis, the Secretary of State for Communication condemns with the utmost rigor the attack perpetrated on Monday 9 against judge Durin Duret Junior "who was in his vehicle when armed individuals posing as National Police officers opened fire on the magistrate's vehicle."

Secretary of State Alexis expresses "his deepest sympathies and the solidarity of the entire government team to judge Durin Junior Duret, the members of ANAMAH and all the magistrates of the country."

Alexis underlines "this assassination attempt attacks the police institution whose motto is to protect and serve" and denounces the choice by some of violence, in particular armed demonstrations to assert their demands.

The National Association of Haitian Magistrates (ANAMAH) which had already called the Magistrates to be careful https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-30126-haiti-news-zapping.html and the Professional Association of Magistrates (APM ) also denounced these attacks against magistrates.
