Haiti - NOTICE : English learning and computer initiation scholarship program

The Embassy of the United States Haiti, in collaboration with Laferrière University of Cap-Haitien, launches the English learning and computer initiation scholarship program entitled "English Microscholarship Access Program - Access".

Funded by the State Department, this program will allow 20 young girls and boys, aged 17 to 21 and economically disadvantaged, to take intensive English courses and IT for two years at Laferrière University, located at # 18, Rue 15-Q in Cap-Haitien.

The objective of this program is to strengthen the ability of these young people to master the English language and to learn computer skills, while deepening their knowledge of American culture. This program will also allow them to be more competitive on the job market and to be better prepared to compete for the various exchange and scholarship programs offered by the American Embassy to Haitian students.

The courses will start in April 2020 and will be held on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4:00 to 6:30 p.m.

Benefits of the Access Program offers participants :

  • Learning English and computer science;

  • Participation in enrichment activities to gain a better understanding of American culture;

  • Payment of transport costs;

  • The acquisition of textbooks for learning English and computer science.

Interested applicants should fill out the application form available on the website https://ht.usembassy.gov/fr/academic-professional-exchanges-fr/ ( "Access Cap Haïtien" tab) and can also collect the form at Laferrière University.

The deadline for submitting applications is Thursday, March 12, 2020.

Conditions of participation :

  • Be between 17 and 21 years old;

  • Submit your bulletin / transcript;

  • Be able to comply with the course schedule mentioned;

  • Have a weak knowledge of English.

Applicants must deposit the required documents below no later than Thursday March 12, 2020 at Laferrière University or send them by email to : papacademicprograms@state.gov

Documents required :

  • Application form;

  • One (1) copy of an identification document;

  • One (1) copy of the last school notebook;

  • Two (2) passport photos;

  • Two (2) letters of recommendation (one from the director of the last educational institution and the other from a notable in the area of ​​residence).

Preference will be given to economically disadvantaged people.
