Haiti - Health : Chinese Coronavirus, the Ministry of Health is reassuring

Monday, in a press conference on the epidemic caused by the Coronavirus (2019-nCoV) which rages mainly in China and more particularly in the Province of Hubei (east of China) where is the city of Wuhan (11 million inhabitants) from which the epidemic started, Dr. Lauré Adrien Director General of the Ministry of Public Health wanted to be reassuring, declared "Let's remain calm. We must not fall into a psychosis [...]"

He indicated that the health authorities are mobilized https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-29858-haiti-flash-chinese-coronavirus-haiti-is-preparing-and-activating-its-alert-system.html and that measures have been taken at Toussaint Louverture International Airport to "[...] prevent a carrier of the virus from freely entering the territory. If ever a person shows suspicious signs, they will be placed in solitary confinement for further investigation. If it is proven that this person represents a danger, a threat to the population, necessary health measures will be taken."

In addition, each passenger who lands in Haiti must complete a questionnaire developed specifically for 2019-nCoV and passengers who are of epidemiological interest will be the subject of further investigation.

Recall that so far there have been no reported cases of 2019-nCoV contamination in Haiti and that the presence of this coronavirus and that 2019-nCoV has not been detected in the Caribbean region according to the latest information from the Caribbean Public Health Agency released on January 23, 2020. The mortality rate of the virus is currently approaching 3%, far from the 9.6% of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus (SARS-CoV).

According to Gao Fu, head of the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention, all of the people who died in China after being infected with 2019-nCov were between 48 and 89 years old and suffered from pre-existing health conditions.

Note that the recommended hygiene measures to avoid being contaminated under any circumstances are washing your hands with soap and water and avoid touching the eyes, mouth and nose which constitute virus entry.
