2 young women shot dead

Saturday evening during a party which took place in Bassin Marmelade, a commune deemed peaceful (2nd section of Marmelade, Artibonite) an unidentified individual who was arguing with two young women (Léonie and Mirleine), suddenly pulled out a gun and made point blank fire, for some unknown reason, killing the two women before fleeing.

ANAMAH wants to relocate the TPI of Port-au-Prince

The National Association of Haitian Magistrates (ANAMAH) demands the relocation of the Court of First Instance (TPI) from Port-au-prince, housed at Boulevard Harry Truman, an area controlled by armed groups, where insecurity prevents proper functioning of courts. Petit-Goâve : Arrest of an armed man

A worrying demographic growth

The Haitian population is estimated at more than 12.2 million inhabitants, of which nearly 6.2 million (51%) live in urban areas (IHSI, 2018). The annual population growth rate is around 2.5%. According to demographic projections, Haiti will have a population of more than 13 million inhabitants in 2030 and probably 16 million in 2050.

The national average density is around 397 inhabitants / km2, with fairly marked differences between regions. The population is concentrated in the big cities, the coastal plains and in the valleys.

The population density reaches 38,000 inhabitants / km2 in Port-au-Prince. In areas of irrigated plain, the population density can reach more than 500 inhabitants / km2 while in some areas of the Northeast, the Central Plateau and Grande Anse, it is less than 200 inhabitants / km2.

Several hundred Haitians turned back at the border this weekend

Several hundred Haitians returning for most of the holiday season spent with their family and loved ones, have been arrested and turn back this weekend from the Dominican border by members of the Corps specializing in the security of land borders (Cesfront) and the army as they attempted to enter Dominican territory irregularly. Meanwhile, long queues of Haitians with valid documents stretched in the sunshine outside the customs and migration offices in Dajabón.
