Following the appeal for support launched at the UN by China to the international community to face the food crisis in Haiti https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-29021-haiti-flash-china-at-the-un-calls-the-international-community-to-help-haiti.html , the Government of Taiwan (Republic of China) announces that it will donate 20,200 tonnes of Taiwanese rice to Haiti in 2020, including 13,000 tonnes will be intended for the Economic and Social Assistance Fund (FAES) for the execution of its social emergency programs and 7,200 tonnes will be distributed for humanitarian purposes via the NGO "Food For the Poor Haiti" (FFP-Haiti).

This announcement follows the commitment of the Taiwanese Government in November 2019 to strengthen its food aid in Haiti https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-29316-haiti-humanitarian-taiwan-will-increase-its-food-aid-in-haiti.html

Recall that for the year 2019, Taiwanese rice donations to Haiti amounted to 9,200 tonnes, including 3,000 tonnes for the benefit of the Haitian government and 6,200 tonnes distributed by FFP Haiti and "Tzu-Chi Foundation". The 20,200 tonnes of rice announced for 2020 represents an increase of more than 100% compared to 2019

The Embassy of Taiwan in Port-au-Prince wishes to emphasize that in addition to the short-term humanitarian aid mentioned which acts on the short term, the Taiwanese Government supports the national rice production in Haiti, with the implementation of the Project to Strengthen the National Production of Rice Seeds to help Haiti achieve long-term food self-sufficiency.
