Haiti - FLASH : The United States wants the involvement of businessmen in the rescue of Haiti

US Ambassador Robin Bernstein, accredited to the Dominican Republic, said she wanted to see greater multilateral involvement in the crisis in Haiti, with the help of the European Union saying "it just can not be United States, Haiti and the Dominican Republic only.

She believed that the level of participation should be increased through the Organization of American States (OAS) or other multilateral entities and that if everyone did not intervene on this issue, the situation in Haiti would be worse.

The US diplomat recalled that her country has granted food aid to Haiti through the US Agency for International Development (USAID) https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-29163-haiti-flash-wfp-will-distribute-2-000-tons-of-food-rations-in-the-country.html and she would meet her counterpart Michèle Sison in Haiti in order to bring together the private sectors of the two countries in Miami to find a solution and get Haiti out of the situation in which the country is facing.

Bernstein insisted that the private sector get involved "we need to find ways in which we can contribute to economic prosperity, whether in employment, education or simply by not closing eyes."

For the American ambassador, a dialogue in Miami with the Haitian Chamber of Commerce, representatives of the private sector of Haiti, the Diapora, the Dominican Republic and the US Ambassador to Haiti Michèle Sison is a necessary first step.
