Haiti - Humanitarian : Taiwan will increase its food aid in Haiti

Alexander Yui, Director General of the Department of Latin American and Caribbean Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) of Taiwan, Republic of China, declared "[...] Taiwan will continue to provide food aid to its Caribbean ally, Haiti, experiencing months of unrest and desperately in need of humanitarian assistance."

In 2019, Taiwan donated 8,600 tons of food to Haiti and according to Alexander Yui this amount is expected to exceed 10,000 tons by 2020, stating that the aid will be channeled through the Taiwan Embassy in the country, as well as by Food For The Poor, at a non-profit organization based in Florida. According to a World Food Program (WFP) estimate, at least 3.7 million people need emergency food assistance https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-29220-haiti-humanitarian-more-than-one-million-haitians-in-emergency-food-situation.html

Moreover, the past week, a Haitian delegation https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-29272-haiti-economy-a-haitian-delegation-of-businessmen-in-taiwan.html led by the Ambassador of Haiti to Taiwan Rachel Coupaud, went to the factory I-Mei Foods in Taoyuan, to learn about the food industries of the country.

Note that Haiti is one of 15 remaining countries to recognize Taiwan's sovereignty.
