Haiti - Cuba : Caribbean Cycling Championship, Haiti on the podium

Sunday, November 3, as part of the Caribbean Cycling Championship (originally planned in Haiti from October 25 to 27 https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-27932-haiti-sports-the-caribbean-cycling-championship-in-haiti-official-confirmation.html ) who was moved to Havana (Cuba) because of the crisis and violence in Haiti, the young Haitian runner Ousline Georges, 22, performed well during the 69.6 km women's race alongside tough opponents and helped Haiti to reach the podium with a bronze medal in the presence of Edwing Charles the Minister of Youth and Sports and the Ambassador of Haiti in Cuba, Régine Lamur.

Minister Edwing Charles congratulated Ousline Georges for having represented the country with dignity in this championship and encouraged the other athletes of the delegation not to give up because they are called to work to promote the Haitian women's cycling in particular and to the development of cycling in general.

Recall that the Caribbean Cycling Championship brings together some 200 cyclists from 27 countries in the Caribbean and around the world.

Minister Charles took the opportunity of his presence in Cuba to meet Cuban officials on the bilateral sports cooperation between Haiti and Cuba including Israel Perera Rozon, Director General of "Cuba Deportes".

Monday Charles met with his Cuban counterpart, Oswald C. Vento Montiller at the National Sports Institute around a new sports cooperation between the two countries. The two Ministers, who discussed the various aspects of this cooperation at length, agreed on the need to sign a Memorandum of Understanding.

At the end of this meeting, Minister Charles was invited by the Cuban Minister to participate from 11 to 15 November 2019 in the VIIIth International Convention on Physical Activities and Sports with a view to the immediate signing of a protocol which will confirm the resumption of sports cooperation between the two countries and allow the coaching of athletes and the training of executives.

This revival of sports cooperation with Cuba responds to the desire of the Haitian sports movement to have qualified cadres for training at all levels of our young Haitian athletes.
