Haiti - FLASH : Very impressive anti-government carnival demonstration

On Sunday several thousand people responding to the call of an artist collective, including rapper Izolan and singer King Kino, dressed in white t-shirts for most of them at the request of the organizers, marched peacefully in Port-au-Princ to demand the resignation of President Moïse.

The very impressive crowd, composed mostly of young people, adults and even children, paraded unequivocally in a carnival-like atmosphere.

Perched on a musical chariot, the artists (Izolan, Mathias, Ti Djo Zenny, Funny among others...) followed one another for hours to sing and launch hostile slogans against President Moses and the ruling power.

The demonstrators marched under a very discreet police presence all along the route : Champ-de-Mars, Lalue, Nazon, Carrefour Airport, Delmas highway, Pétion-ville, Bourdon, Champs-de-Mars.

According to several observers, this was the largest mobilization since the beginning of the anti-government movement, artists being visibly more mobilizing than the opposition.

The artists' collective announces a march each week, until the Head of State leaves the National Palace...

Moreover, on Saturday at Carrefour, a crowd responding to the opposition's call, much less peaceful and carnivalesque, took the street, erected barricades of burning tires along the route to demand the departure of President Jovenel Moïse while denouncing unemployment, insecurity and corruption...

Banks, shops and gas stations remained closed. A protester was shot and wounded. An event that surprised more than one resident of Carrefour, a commune known generally calm.
