A delegation of the Association of Industries of Haiti (ADIH) led by its President Georges Barau Sassine, including among others Lionel Delatour, consultant of the ADIH, Richard Coles, head of Coles Group, Reginald Béliard of Fatima group, Maulik Radia, Director General of the Plastech Group was in Taiwan (Republic of China) at the beginning of October at the invitation of the Taiwanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

"We came here to encourage Taiwanese to invest in Haiti, especially in the context of US tariffs on imports from China. We explain to Taiwanese companies, especially those working for the US market, that we are only 72 hours by boat and 1:20 by plane from the United States - unbeatable proximity, not to mention the benefits provided by the HOPE law for the sector textile.

We promote the textile sector because it allows investment by job the least expensive. We built in the north of Haiti a huge industrial park where a big Korean company with 14,000 employees settled, the Taiwanese company Everest Textile Company with more than 2,000 employees and MAS of Sri Lanka with a thousand employees. We have room for a dozen other companies and would even be happy if this park is managed by a Taiwanese," George Sassine said in an interview on "Taiwan info".

During his stay in Taiwan, the ADIH delegation met several Taiwanese employers' associations and Miguel Tsao, Taiwan's Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs. One of the goals of the delegation was to set up, if possible in early December, a mission of Taiwanese business people to Haiti to observe the situation and see the opportunities available to them and the challenges too. "If this mission is confirmed, it will be a very strong sign for Haiti," said Sassine, adding "If Taiwanese companies express an interest in setting up [in Haiti], the ADIH is able to accompany them in their efforts, especially at the Center for Investment Facilitation (CFI)."
